Sri Balaji Venkateshwara Swamy Devalayam is one of the most important and ancient temples in the district of Gangapur. The temple is dedicated to Lord Venkateswara (Balaji), an incarnation of Lord Vishnu, and is often regarded by devotees as a “Mini Tirupati” of northern Telangana. It is located in Gangapur village of Rebbena Mandal.

History

The temple is believed to date back to the 13th century and is considered one of the oldest temples in the region. Local tradition states that a devotee named Mummadi Pothaji discovered the deity after receiving divine guidance in a dream. Later, the temple was patronized and developed during the Kakatiya period.

Religious Importance

• The temple attracts devotees from Telangana, Andhra Pradesh, Maharashtra, and Chhattisgarh.
• Many devotees believe that worshipping here brings blessings similar to a pilgrimage to Tirumala.

Gangapur Jathara

The temple is famous for the Gangapur Jathara, held annually during Magha Pournami (January–February). The festival lasts several days and draws tens of thousands of devotees. In recent years, attendance has exceeded 50,000 pilgrims.

The temple follows traditional South Indian temple architecture and is situated amid natural surroundings near a stream, creating a serene atmosphere for worship and pilgrimage.
