The Story Behind the District Name
Komaram Bheem Asifabad derives its name from the legendary tribal leader Komaram Bheem, whose struggle for the rights of indigenous communities continues to inspire generations.
Before the formation of the district, the region was part of the erstwhile Adilabad District. Known for its vast forests, tribal settlements, and rich cultural traditions, the area played an important role in preserving the heritage and lifestyle of indigenous communities.
Komaram Bheem emerged as one of the most influential tribal freedom fighters in the region. His inspiring slogan, “Jal, Jangal, Zameen” (Water, Forest, Land), became a powerful symbol of self-governance, social justice, and the struggle to safeguard natural resources for future generations.
As part of Telangana's administrative reorganization in October 2016, Komaram Bheem Asifabad was established as a separate district to improve governance, public service delivery, and regional development.
